Beta Ray Bill first appeared in Thor #337 (1983), created by Walt Simonson. An alien warrior of the Korbinite race who was judged worthy to lift Mjolnir — the first being outside the Asgardian line to do so. After defeating Thor in battle, Odin forged a second hammer, Stormbreaker, specifically for Bill. His horse-skull appearance combined with genuine heroism made him an immediate fan favorite. The Simonson Thor run in which he debuted is widely considered the greatest Thor story ever told. Beta Ray Bill has appeared in Hasbro Marvel Legends and various specialty lines.
