Where did Transformers come from?
In 1983 Hasbro saw Takara's transforming-robot toys — the Diaclone and Micro Change (Microman) lines — at the Tokyo Toy Show, bought the rights, and rebranded them under one new name: The Transformers. Every figure released in the 1984 launch was a repurposed Diaclone or Micro Change mold. Hasbro hired Marvel Comics to write the Autobots-vs-Decepticons backstory, and writer Bob Budiansky named most of the characters.
What is the most valuable Transformers figure?
A sealed 1984 G1 Optimus Prime complete with his trailer is the holy grail; a pristine loose one is $500+, and sealed examples go far higher. A mint Jetfire and the G1 'Pepsi' Optimus Prime have each reached just under $25,000 at auction. The connoisseur's grail is a Soundwave mint-in-sealed-box complete with all his cassettes — Ravage, Laserbeak, Rumble, Frenzy, and Ratbat — in original packaging.

How is the Autobot vs Decepticon split decided on this hub?
