Simon Williams first appeared in Avengers #9 (1964), created by Stan Lee and Don Heck. Initially a villain manipulated by Baron Zemo into fighting the Avengers, Williams appeared to sacrifice himself at the issue's end and spent over a decade in comics limbo. Revived in Avengers #151 (1976), he became an ionic-energy Avenger and Hollywood stuntman. Crucially, Wonder Man's brain wave patterns were used as the template for The Vision's artificial mind — creating a unique psychological bond explored across multiple storylines. Toy Biz produced Wonder Man figures during their 1990s Marvel toy run.
