A female clone of Wolverine who became one of the most compelling characters in X-Men history. X-23 originated in X-Men: Evolution, the animated series, in 2003 — created by writer Craig Kyle specifically for that show — before entering comics continuity in NYX #3 in 2004. Weapon X scientists, unable to replicate the Y chromosome, created a female clone from degraded samples of Logan's DNA. Raised from birth as a living weapon under brutal conditions, Laura was trained as an assassin and subjected to the same adamantium coating procedure as Logan. She escaped and eventually found Charles Xavier's school. Unlike Wolverine's two claws per hand, Laura has two claws per hand and one from each foot. After Logan's death she took on the Wolverine mantle in the All-New Wolverine series from 2016, earning widespread praise. She later adopted the name Laura Kinney.
