A pop star with the power to convert sound into light — one of the most unusual X-Men ever conceived. Dazzler first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #130 in 1980, created by Tom DeFalco, Roger Stern, and John Romita Jr. She was originally designed as a cross-promotional project between Marvel and Casablanca Records, who planned to sign an actual performer to play the character and release real albums. That deal fell through but Dazzler remained, debuting the same issue as the White Queen and the Hellfire Club. A professional singer who converts ambient sound into hard-light constructs and laser beams, Alison spent years rejecting the X-Men to protect her career before eventually joining the team. Her visual design shifted dramatically from 1980s disco aesthetic to punk to contemporary pop. She remains one of the most fashion-reflective characters in Marvel.
