Sandtroopers are standard stormtroopers equipped with desert survival gear for operations on Tatooine — distinguished by their orange pauldrons (shoulder armor) indicating rank and their backpack equipment. They appear prominently in the Mos Eisley scenes of A New Hope searching for R2-D2 and C-3PO. The pauldron color (white, black, orange, black with white dot) indicates the trooper's rank and is a key army-building variant detail for collectors.
