FN-2187 stands frozen mid-raid, a fellow trooper's blood smeared across his helmet, in the night assault on the Jakku village of Tuanul that opens The Force Awakens (2015). It's his first taste of combat, and it breaks him: he refuses to fire on villagers and later helps Poe Dameron escape, the spark of a defection that ends with Poe renaming him from his stormtrooper designation. That blood stripe is the visual hinge of his arc, the moment a soldier chooses to become a person.
