Carnor Jax rose through betrayal, murdering his way from Imperial Royal Guardsman to self-declared Sovereign Protector after Palpatine's death at Endor, in Dark Horse's Crimson Empire (1997-98) by Mike Richardson, Randy Stradley, and Paul Gulacy. His reign didn't go unchallenged: fellow Guardsman Kir Kanos, the one soldier who survived Jax's purge, spent the series hunting him down for it. Hasbro's 2021 Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary release names him Carnor Jax on the box, in red-and-black Royal Guard-derived armor and cape, though the deco produced reads closer to Kanos, a mix-up Hasbro acknowledged but never corrected.
